The Massandra Winery, the oldest in Ukraine has been producing wine for more than a century and has gained International recognition for its wines of exceptional quality.

The winery was founded in 1894 on the south coast of the Crimean peninsula, near the city of Yalta.
The subtropical climate of the region and the location by the sea create the unique conditions necessary for cultivating wines of high quality.

The Massandra Estate and the rock-cut cellars are among the finest in the world and can be considered an important part of Ukraine's national heritage.

The Massandra wine collection is  mentioned in the "Guinness book of records" and  includes every vintage of Massandra wine ever made, as well as some great European wines and some very rare bottles from the Tsar of Russia.

Late in the 19th century, Prince Lev Golitzin was appointed to establish the Massandra winery.
The vintner Golitzin was to concentrate on the development of wines best suited to the region. Massandra’s  winemaker had an extraordinary talent for his craft, and his "creations" are to still produced to this day.
Massandra wines are described as legendary, with a distinctive full flavor that sets them apart from the European and New World wines.

The collection acquired by Golitzin has a remarkable history. During the Second World War the entire collection was taken from Yalta to three secret locations. It was a monumental undertaking: each bottle of wine was marked with an evacuation number and packed into crates before being transported to their safe locations. The only victim of this operation was the 1941 which could not be moved since it was still in the barrel. This unfortunate vintage was unceremoniously dumped in the sea. For the first time ever, the Black Sea turned red.
The collection remained hidden till 1944, after which it could be returned to its original home.

Since 1991 and know Massandra the "Massandra Collection" worldwide recognition through participation in auctions at Sotheby's.
The highlights on this auction included the Chateau d'Yquem 1840, Muscat Lunel 1848, Madeira Ribeiro Secco 1837 and 1775 unique Sherry de la Frontera, a bottle that was auctioned for 50,000 U.S. dollars at Sotheby's in 2001.
